I want to thank you for being part of the slow beauty movement. We’re all familiar with the saying, “good things take time,” and that’s certainly true when making positive changes in your skin.
The Slow Beauty Movement
The slow beauty movement focuses on long-term improvements in your skin. Over the past six weeks of your skin detox journey, you’ve committed to building healthy habits for your skin, and the results you’ve been getting are proof that your time has been well spent. Last week, we talked about making healthy lifestyle changes. This week, we’re going to take that a step further and encourage you to slow down.

How many things do you have on your plate right now? Are you running all day long, getting kids to school, going to work, making meals, walking the dog, cleaning the house, paying bills, figuring out car or home repairs, driving kids to all their activities, or maybe caring for an aging loved one? Whew. It’s a lot.
We’re often always on the go and taking care of everybody but ourselves. But ladies, you deserve some TLC, too. And all that stress isn’t good for you or your skin.
This week let’s embrace slowing it all down. Take a deep breath and slowly let it out. It’s time to take your foot off the pedal and chill out a little.
At Au Natural Skinfood, the slow beauty movement is at our core. Slowing down and taking your time in everything. From how you use your products, to how you eat, the slow beauty movement will help you maximize the potency of your skincare program.
This week, I want you to take all the time you need for you and your skin. Let’s talk about six simple steps you can follow to help you be more mindful and give slowing down a try.
Step One: Join The Community

Step Two: Focus On Dermo-Nutrition
The second half of our program is all about learning to care for and maintain your new, healthier skin. That’s why I recommend focusing on dermo-nutrition in the maintenance phase.
You’ll need to eat the foods your body needs to create the proper environment for a healthy skin barrier. And that means a drastic move away from convenience, which brings us to…
Step Three: Say No To Convenience
It’s so easy just to go through the drive-through on the way to work or school… and again on the way home. When you’re constantly running, it’s hard to have the energy to prepare healthy foods. I get it.
But ditching the fast foods, takeaways, and Friday night cocktails is worth the effort. Your body will feel better, and you’ll have more energy to do the things you need to do.
Get acquainted with healthy ingredients and well-being routines that support healthier skin. Our “Bountiful Bowl” recipe is a great place to start.
The Slow Beauty Movement Bountiful Bowl Recipe
There are four elements to building perfect bowl food – otherwise known in our office as ‘bountiful bowls’. This includes adding high-quality grains, powerful proteins, a generous serving of greens and veggies and then topping off with your favorite dressing.
Hot, cold or a mixture, there is no hard and fast rule to a good bountiful bowl but the one thing – it must be is packed to the brim with healthy ingredients, so it has a full, rounded appearance.
Typically, your bowl should look like a rainbow, seasoned to your liking and power-packed with filling nutrients and vitamins that aid weight loss and overall health and well-being.
See below a glossary* for a list of 20 great ingredients for your bountiful bowls that will help you repair and care for your skin.
*Salmon, avocado, quinoa, pumpkin & sunflower seeds, lemon, honey, almonds, olive oil & flax seed oil, broccoli, apple cider vinegar, yogurt, beetroot, berries, kumara, tomato, red or yellow peppers, chickpeas & lentils, eggs, Parmesan, Feta, Neufchatel cheese.
Step Four: Compress To Destress
We get bored by the same old routines. Continuing to add new ideas will help keep things fresh.
This week, I highly recommend trying a hot or cold compress. It’s one of my favorite ways to destress.
On our website, you’ll find a recipe for an easy-to-make DIY natural compress. It’s a sensory and hydrating treat for your skin and soul.
Don’t forget to follow it up with a nice, slow massage. I warm up a little Dr Au Concentrates Anti-Aging Face Oil Level 1 in my hands and slowly massage it into my skin. My skin feels amazing, and I feel peaceful and relaxed. Try it – slow beauty has never been better!
Step Five: Eat More Ferments
We’ve already talked in the past about how important a well-functioning digestive system is to maintain a healthy glow. That’s why I encourage you to add fermented foods into your daily diet.
You could try having one or two tablespoons of raw, organic sauerkraut with your meals, or topping your granola with coconut yogurt. Both of these foods are rich in natural probiotics and will foster good gut health.
Step Six: Chew Your Food
Really chew it. A lot. Did you know scientific research has proven that you need to chew hard foods like vegetables at least 30 times before you swallow?
This type of mindful chewing helps the body to release a protein made in the pancreas, called amylase. It helps break down your food more effectively so you can reap the benefits of all those healthy ingredients.
Hero Ingredient: NZ Glacial Clay
New Zealand glacial clay contains an exceptional level of minerals formed from the ancient collision of volcanic ash and glacial ice. This abundance of silica and other minerals is safe and beneficial for all skin types.
Thanks to the small particle size of the clay, you’ll also benefit from high absorption levels. New Zealand glacial clay deeply penetrates your pores and leaves your skin soft and strong.
This amazing clay also has the ability to extract excess hydrogen from your skin, creating more room for oxygen, and leaving your skin clearer and calmer.
Plus, its negative ion charge attracts positively charged toxins and bacteria on your skin, which helps with deep cleansing, detoxification, rejuvenation, and revitalization. Combine it with the healing properties of Manuka honey, and you have a winning formula that will not hurt your skin.
Why not set aside 20 to 30 minutes this week to relax with a nice exfoliating Balance Rotorua White Mud Mask? It’s a great way to rejuvenate both you and your skin!
